NAME: Pyrrha Nikos
CANON: RWBY
CANON POINT: Late Season 3 right before she goes to fight Penny in the Vale Tournament
AGE: 17
BACKGROUND: History
PERSONALITY:
Described as the token Canadian, Pyrrha is a kind, patient soul who gives all she can to help make other people’s lives better. Despite being a small time celebrity athlete so big she was on the Pumpkin Pete cereal box (a cereal she laments is unhealthy), she’s incredibly modest, believing herself to be no better than anyone else, though their perceptions of her being so out of their league has led her to live a somewhat lonely life. Overall, Pyrrha fosters positive relationships with people, winning them over with her kind and caring nature. Though she can be a bit awkward getting a conversation going with someone she doesn’t know as well, likely due to her lonely upbringing, she’s still an outgoing person who approaches others in hopes of befriending them.
Perhaps it’s because of her isolated childhood she apologizes all the time while also possibly being the most selfless person in all of Remnant, always putting others before herself. This acts as both a good and a bad thing: on the one hand, it paints her in a great light. On the other, it keeps her from living the life she wants to live. But more on that later. She spends her downtime helping her friend Jaune become a better fighter and giving him advice to help pursue the girl he likes despite being hopelessly in love with him herself. She is genuinely a good person who wants to help as many people as she can, no matter the cost.
Fiercely protective of her friends, she tries to help whenever she can, though she also knows when to back off and let others handle things on their own or have their moments. A prime example of this is when Cardin Winchester is bullying Jaune. When her offers of help are brushed off, she gives him his space to handle it, though it’s clear she doesn’t like it. When, in the end, it’s her polarity that helps Jaune have his badass moment in front of his bully, she tells Weiss and Ruby not to tell him, knowing this is a confidence boost that he needs to have.
While not the leader of her team and not having quite as much tactical prowess as Jaune or Ruby, Pyrrha is a great fighter, having competed since she was young, and knows how to handle a fight with little to no direction. A simple call of her name and a short survey of the battlefield leaves her knowing exactly what she needs to do to help her team. She’s also willing to try new things and will ask for clarification if she’s unclear on something, such as when Jaune introduces team attack names midfight, causing a quick team powwow where she asks him what their name is so that she’ll know what that call out means. Her skills both as a team member and an individual are known throughout Remnant as being top notch.
In spite of being praised for being such a strong, intelligent, and capable warrior, Pyrrha remains modest and humble, always giving credit to her team for her success and being surprised when Ozpin chose her to be the vessel for the Fall Maiden above all others. This decision is perhaps the first and only time that we see Pyrrha almost choose her own happiness over that of the world as she knew that going through with it could cost her everything, though once again her sense of responsibility kicked in, and she ultimately put her own feelings aside to do what she must.
Of course, being seen as so unbelievably capable by others causes a lot of weight on the shoulders, and Pyrrha certainly carries the world on her shoulders. Whether a product of her success or her desire, she believed with all of her might that she is destined to protect the world, a belief which would ultimately lead to her untimely death.
The means of her death however, she might not. Pyrrha believes in the best in everybody and trusts what she’s told at face value. She believed without second thought that Ozpin was making the right choice. She didn’t question anything more than necessary, but simply accepted what she was told and trusted that her headmaster wouldn’t lead her astray. As much as her hubris was her downfall, so was the nativite which allowed her to be manipulated into that course of action. Regardless of the cause, sacrificing herself to try to save the world, or at the very least, her friends, is a fate she would choose again.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Combat Skills: The top of her class huntress-in-training at Sanctum and four time champion of the Mistral Regional Tournament, to say that Pyrrha is familiar with combat is an understatement. Her forte lies with her weapon set, a spear/rifle/xiphos and a shield. Combining that with her apparent strength and her polarity semblance (see below), she’s a force to be reckoned with.
Aura: Like others from Remnant, Pyrrha has the ability to channel his Aura, the manifestation of her soul, and use it both offensively as an attack on its own or to enhance a blow, or defensively to form a shield of sorts. Aura can also be used to heal minor wounds and protect users from the elements to some extent, though it does not help with extreme conditions and prolonged exposure. Aura has also been described as being able to act as a warning system, alerting them of danger before they encounter it if they are in tune with it. Using Aura depletes it, but it is restored on its own over time. If a user’s Aura breaks, the user may start taking lethal blows until it recovers.
Semblance: An ability unique to her alone, Pyrrha’s Semblance is Polarity - the control over magnets, not poles. Pyrrha’s semblance seems to extend to all metals and not just magnetic ones as she is able to move literally any metal object. She has mastered it to the point that she’s able to throw multiple heavy objects at the same time, though it she can accidentally trigger it when under extreme emotional duress, such as when she slammed Jaune into a wall. Overall, she mostly keeps this ability underwraps, using it almost imperceptibly to give her an edge in combat - big shows of it only tend to come out in major one-on-ones, such as the Vale Tournament final or her fight against Cinder.
INVENTORY:
Miló, her three-in-one weapon: a javelin, a Xiphos and a rifle; Akoúo̱, her shield
Scroll (aka a cellphone in their world)
The weight of Remnant on her shoulders
Prom Dress and heels
MOONBLESSING: Cordis
